Local Bike Routes

This page includes some local bike paths and a link to Scenic Bike Loops in Madison County from Berea. To contribute your favorite biking route, e-mail Madison County Greenways & Trails Inc. To find local routes and riders, try this terrific Web site: MapMyRide and type in our 40475 (Richmond Zip Code) under FIND A RIDE.

For example, try the Union City 25-miler mapped by Robin Reams.

Madison County Paths and Trails

Goggins Lane
A 2.12 mile paved bikeway/walkway that parallels Goggins Lane from Tates Creek Road to Barnes Mill or vice versa in northwest Madison County. A couple of tough hills, but you are rewarded on the return trip. Lengthen your route longer by entering Hickory Hills (Old Farm Road) and/or Cross Creek subdivisions (Sundae Drive) and loop around the hilltop views of a couple of the county's prettiest neighborhoods. The parking lot of Historic White Oak Pond Church makes a great trailhead. Map it,

City of Richmond Paths and Trails

Industrial Park Wetlands Rail Trail (in planning stages) This will be a .5 mile trail off Duncannon Lane in south Richmond that follows an abandoned railroad spur. It will start with a short paved trail and a parking trailhead and it is hoped that it will develop into a trail linking Richmond and Berea in the future.

US 25 South Bike Lane (in planning stages) Thanks to citizen interest and support at an Aug. 16, 2006 public hearing, the Ky. Transportation Cabinet modified its plans to widen US 25 South from the US421/25 split to the Richmond Bypass. They will add a 5-foot wide bike lane adjacent to the outside driving lane of the urban section of the route from Punkin Run Road to the bypass. They have tentatively proposed to strip and mark the paved shoulder through the rural section in future design plans. Map it.

City of Berea Paths and Trails
Beebe-White Bike Path (approximately 3-mile round trip)
One of the best biking experiences in Madison County for beginners or those in need of a quick, easy and safe bike ride. The wide paved flat trail runs from the Berea College campus at the corner of Ellipse Street and Hwy 595 (Walnut Meadow Pike) to the Kentucky Artisan Center at Exit 77 on Interstate 75. Highlights: CSX Railroad crossing (very safely designed); scent of the candle factory outlet store; wildflower buffer; view of high school spire, Berea College tower and Berea's lovely pinnacle hills on way back. Map it

Scenic Biking Loops from Berea

Avid Berea cylists Bill Stolte, Roger Jones and others have developed a series of bicycling loops along country roads in and around Berea.
